A few more tweaks to the gameplay

Hey,

Did a bit of cleanup regarding some early menu dialogue because I wasn't aware of how janky it could get, but hopefully it's all fixed now.  With any luck it's just some graphical errors and errant typos here and there, but as usual please give me a heads up if there are still bugs left to fix. You all are so great, thanks for all the feedback!
